"Freshman year, my roommate/best friend and I got a phone call late one night that said our good friend was in the hospital and she'd tried to kill herself. I'm pretty sure I collapsed in the hallway and cried against the wall, right there in the middle of the dorms, unable to handle the thought that I might never see her again. It was like a hole was blown in my chest. Since then, I never turn off my phone at night and answer it at any time. You never know when someone will need you."
